About Us

The Barn Store & Bear Country Inn is a small, third generation, family run business that employs local students and young adults for the busy summertime season.

The family and staff enjoy meeting and serving people from all over the world; and, we strive to help everyone feel comfortable and welcome in our beautiful little corner of the world.

We are glad to help visitors with directions, hiking trail information, and other helpful tips for a successful vacation.

We take pride in having clean well kept rooms as well as serving a fresh healthy breakfast.

The Owner, Jeff Uibel, is a semi-retired Mechanical Engineer who was born in the United States, but was raised in the small community of Mountain View, Alberta Canada. His German grandfather immigrated to Southern Alberta and started the "Barn Store" business as a gas & service station. Jeff's father built up the business to accommodate the needs of local ranchers & farmers as well as tourists by adding the grocery store, gift shop, post office, and the Inn rooms. Jeff purchased and took over the business in 2011. He is continuing to make improvements to the business. Among his many talents and interests are: hiking, skiing, engineering, and speaking the Japanese language.
His wife, Stephanie, manages the Inn & housekeeping. She is an American from California/Southern Oregon with French and Dutch ancestors. She is also the local Dance Teacher/Choreographer. She enjoys gardening, hiking, skiing, and paddle-boarding in Waterton in her spare time.

Jeff & Stephanie were married in Utah in 1991 and raised their family of 4 children around the United States prior to moving to Southern Alberta. They have lived in Utah, New York, Washington, and Texas, and have traveled across the United States multiple times. Their family loves adventures in the outdoors and enjoys skiing, camping and hiking together.
